چکیده

Specific tools to measure the cognitive benefits of music therapy and music-rehabilitation training available therapists are few empirically weak: they mostly psychometrically unrefined or based on unclear tasks scoring protocols; do not take into consideration distinct functions exclusively observational protocols. To overcome these limitations, we developed a 15-min screening tool suitable for therapists, Music Cognitive Test (MCT), which assesses abilities stimulated by music-making activities (e.g., attentional, verbal, executive functions, short- long-term memory) including music-based items. MCT was validated with 335 participants (aged 18–100 years old) presenting range levels, from healthy cognition severe impairment. correlated strongly positively well-known tests: Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Assessment (MoCA), Severe (SMMSE). also displayed excellent sensitivity in identifying impaired individuals according both MMSE MoCA diagnostic criteria (99.4% 93.0%, respectively), specificity (93.5%) (97.8%) criteria. Overall, results highlight reliability this novel brief music-focused test, enable independently consistently monitor effectiveness their intervention functions.
